MGI Worldwide

The future of accountancy is increasingly being shaped by technology, global connectivity and changing client expectations.
To ensure Alexander Knight & Co remains at the forefront of these developments, members of our leadership team recently attended two major international events hosted by MGI Worldwide – one of the world’s leading international accounting networks. As a member firm, Alexander Knight & Co benefits from access to a global community of independent firms, providing valuable insight that can be shared directly with clients here in the UK.
Murray Patt joined firm leaders from across Europe and beyond at the MGI Worldwide European Conference 2026 in Athens, while Audit Principal Kate Rowbottom attended the MGI Worldwide International Audit & Tax Seminar in Amsterdam, bringing together specialists from around the world to discuss emerging issues, regulatory developments and international tax trends.
The European Conference in Athens brought together delegates from across Europe as well as representatives from markets including the United States, China and South Korea. Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities facing the profession, with a particular emphasis on technology, leadership and the evolution of client services.
One of the key themes emerging from the conference was the growing role of artificial intelligence and automation. While technology continues to improve efficiency and streamline compliance processes, delegates agreed that the future of accountancy will increasingly centre on advisory services, strategic guidance and helping businesses navigate complex commercial decisions.
Another important topic was leadership. As firms adapt to rapid change, those that invest in their people, culture and long-term vision are expected to be best placed to thrive.
Murray Patt said:
“The profession is evolving faster than ever before. While technology is transforming how firms operate, the importance of trusted advice and strong client relationships has never been greater. Events like this provide valuable opportunities to learn from colleagues across different markets and bring those insights back to benefit our clients and team here in the UK.”
In Amsterdam, delegates explored developments in international taxation, cross-border business issues and the increasingly complex regulatory landscape facing businesses operating across multiple jurisdictions.
The event provided valuable technical insight and reinforced the importance of international collaboration in supporting businesses with overseas interests, international investments and global growth ambitions.
Kate Rowbottom said:
“The tax landscape continues to evolve at pace, particularly for businesses with international connections. Attending the seminar provided an excellent opportunity to share knowledge with specialists from other countries and gain perspectives that will help us continue delivering informed, practical advice to our clients.”
For Alexander Knight & Co, participation in these international events is about more than professional development. It ensures the firm remains connected to emerging trends, global best practice and the wider issues influencing businesses both locally and internationally.
By combining local expertise with international insight, Alexander Knight & Co continues to help entrepreneurial businesses navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

We were delighted to attend the recent MGI Europe 2024 Conference held in Warsaw, Poland.
This year’s European Conference attracted 73 delegates from 48 European firms, including participants from the UK, China, and Mauritius.
Building on the success of previous events, the conference offered a dynamic mix of knowledge-sharing sessions and exciting social activities, both indoors and outdoors.
The agenda placed a strong emphasis on nurturing employee well-being and fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture.
We also heard from Poland’s former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, on economic and political developments , and as usual, there were also lots of interesting social activities with plenty of opportunities for networking and chatting with fellow members.
In a fun twist, six teams of delegates competed in a scavenger hunt through Warsaw’s charming old town, culminating in a delightful evening of Chopin’s piano music and a tasting of Polish cuisine and vodka.

Case study
A good example of international collaboration is our positive relationship with fellow MGI Worldwide member Revideco AB based in Sweden.
Its team reached out to us to assist one of their clients who needed some UK specific advice relating to a subsidiary in England. The Revideco team has offices in Stockholm, Skellefteå, Sundsvall and Göteborg. Revideco are authorised accountants and auditors and have provided accounting, audit and consultancy services in Sweden since 1994.
As a result of the introduction by partners at Revideco we were able to assist a Cheshire-based company which manufactures and retails all-natural supplements for dogs, in its annual Audit requirements. We were delighted to have been appointed by the client to undertake this activity and we are pleased that the relationship has developed positively.
“We are pleased with the relationship we have created with Alexander Knight & Co in the United Kingdom and it is pleasing to see that through our membership of MGI Worldwide we are able to identify high quality collaboration partners who can assist our clients with UK accountancy requirements.”

Antti Niemi
Partner, Revideco AB
“We are delighted to have been referred by our MGI Worldwide colleagues in Sweden. It’s a really good example of how likeminded accountants from different jurisdictions can operate effectively and develop strong and trusted relationships through the association. We would like to thank the Revideco team. We are looking forward to developing our professional relationship even more in 2024 and beyond.”

We are delighted to announce that we have joined a leading international network of accounting firms to take advantage of growing demand for UK-based tax expertise.
Our practice, based in Hale, Greater Manchester, is now a member of MGI Worldwide which includes more than 9,000 professionals in almost 100 countries around the world.
MGI Worldwide was established in 1947 and is the oldest international accountancy network in the world. Annual revenues of all its members top £770m.
We have made this decision following increased demand during the past few years for our specialist UK tax and audit services for the UK subsidiaries of overseas companies. It also comes in readiness for a post-Brexit business landscape in anticipation of new trade deals where international expertise will be required.
MGI Worldwide member firms are well respected in their local markets, share similar values and work with the same types of clients, from small and medium-sized businesses, family business, entrepreneurial and fast growth enterprises to subsidiaries of major multinationals.
Murray Patt, founder of Alexander Knight & Co, explain what it means for our clients:
Joining MGI Worldwide means we are part of a network of advisers who have expertise in all corners of the globe. As well as being able to access guidance from other member firms in their own jurisdictions, it means that we can secure referrals from international companies who are looking for specialist advice about setting up in the UK or who need specialist advice on the UK tax position. It’s a fantastic expansion of our expertise for our clients.
